Rod Pampling: Shriners Hospitals for Children Open

Rod Pampling wins the 2016 Shriners Hospitals for Children Open at TPC Summerlin in Las Vegas Nevada taking home 1.1 million dollars out of a 6.6 million dollar purse. His first win in 10 years.

The tournament sponsor was Shriners Hospitals for Children. Shriners Hospitals for Children is a network of 22 non-profit medical facilities across North America.Patients must be minors under the age of 18 and are not required to have any familial affiliation with the Shriners order nor Freemasonry. Because of its roots in charity and non-profit care, no stock or financial information can be graphed and charted to paint any sort of picture here. According to its Form 990, as of 2012, the Shriners Hospitals had an endowment of $8.2 billion, which is up significantly since April 2009, when the endowment dropped to approximately $5 billion due to the recession.

Sponsor information on Rod Pampling shows that he is sponsored by Srixon, but having recently documented their growth in previous weeks I am instead going to focus on his other sponsor Dexion.

DEXION LIMITED once traded under ASX:DEX. Company code "DEX" delisted as of 03/09/2010
following receipt of a copy of the compulsory acquisition notice from G.U.D Holdings Limited. So lets look at the charts for G.U.D Holding's for the 11/6/2016 win.

GREY:GUDHF

We can determine that they were already on the up and up, although we can maybe assume that his tournament win didn't hurt their situation. GUD has been listed on the Australian Stock Exchange for over 50 years and is included in the S&P ASX 200 index. GUD Holdings Limited, through its subsidiaries, engages in the manufacture and importation, distribution, and sale of automotive products, pumps, pool and spa systems, and water pressure systems in Australia, New Zealand, France, and Spain. Hideki Matsuyama: HSBC Championship

Hideki Matsuyama captures the HSBC Championship. Closing with a 6-under 66 to win the World Golf Championships-HSBC Championship at Sheshan International GC, Shanghai, China and become the first Asian winner in the 18 years of the WGCs.

The tournament sponsor is HSBC Holdings PLC, a British multinational banking and financial services holding company, tracing its origin to Hong Kong. It is the world's seventh largest bank by total assets and aof December 2016 the largest in Europe with total assets of US$2.374 trillion. Let's take a look at the stock charts between October 27 - 30.

LON : HSBA

The week after the tournament for the sponsor doesn't look so good. A slight pullback before they continue to surge upwards later in the quarter. While not adhering to 'Win Sunday, Buy Monday' philosophies of being in and out quickly, steady hands holding this one seen a win.

Next, lets look at one of the tournament winners sponsors: Lexus.

Lexus is the luxury vehicle division of Japanese car maker Toyota. The Lexus marque is marketed in more than 70 countries and territories worldwide and has become Japan's largest-selling make of premium cars. Lexus is headquartered in Nagoya, Japan. Operational centers are located in Brussels, Belgium and the U.S. in Torrance, California. Lexus trades under Toyota.

Same as HSBC, if you held this one briefly you could have seen returns. More tournaments will need to be analyzed to see a pattern.

Sanderson Farms Championship: Cody Gribble

Cody Gribble took the Sanderson Farms Championship at -20 in Jackson, Mississippi Oct 27-30, 2016.

The tournament sponsor is Sanderson Farms, Inc. They are engaged in the production, processing, marketing and distribution of fresh and frozen chicken and other prepared food items. With 10 plants, and over 11,000 employees and 870+ contract growers across the southeast, Sanderson Farms is the 3rd largest poultry producer in the U.S.

Sanderson Farms, Inc

Taking a hit, the tournament seemed to give a nice spike in price from 85.78 to 92.10 by the time the players were done off the tee. If you didn't sell immediately then it paid off by the time your dividend came around.

Next lets take a look at the player and his sponsor.

Couldn't find any sponsor information for Cody Gribble.

CIMB Classic: Justin Thomas

Justin Thomas went -23 for the Safeway Open tournament in TPC Kuala Lumpur, Kuala Lumpur October 20 - 23, 2016.

The tournament sponsor is CIMB. CIMB Group Holdings Berhad (MYX: 1023) is a Malaysian universal bank headquartered in Kuala Lumpur and operating in high growth economies in ASEAN. CIMB Group is an indigenous ASEAN investment bank, the largest Asia Pacific (ex-Japan) based investment bank and one of the world's largest Islamic banks. CIMB has a wide retail branch network with 1,080 branches across the region. The group has over 40,000 employees located in 18 countries, covering ASEAN and major global financial centres, as well as countries in which its customers have significant business and investment dealings.

CIMB

From 5.08 to over 5.50 these holdings went places in the months after, but in the immediate it seems like shareholders didn't like the idea of their profits being used to advertise during a golf tournament.

Now lets look at Justin Thomas and his sponsors Ralph Lauren.

RALPH LAUREN

You would have needed to buy and then hold to make money with this one. The "Win on Sunday, buy on Monday" model will need a bunch more tournament winners and sponsors charted out in both the golf and NASCAR field before I can see any sorts of pattern or consistency.

Will keep documenting until I see any constants.

Safeway Open: Brendan Steele

Brendan Steele went -18 for the Safeway Open tournament October 13 - 16, 2016.

Right off the bat, I couldn't pull up any stock charts to map how the tournament name title would have any effects on price as all Safeway data points towards the January 2015 merger between them and grocer Albertsons. So with that, we will focus on the winner and his sponsors: starting with Wilson Staff, aka Wilson Sporting Goods.

Amer Sports Corporation (formerly Amer-Yhtymä Oyj) is a Finnish headquartered sporting goods company with brands including Salomon, Wilson Sporting Goods, Atomic Skis, Arc’teryx, Mavic, Suunto, ENVE Composites, and Precor.

Established in 1950 as an industrial conglomerate with interests as diverse as ship owning, tobacco products and publishing, Amer has gradually evolved into a multinational firm devoted to the production and marketing of sporting goods. Today, the company employs just under 8,000 people. The company shares are listed on the Nasdaq Helsinki stock exchange; So lets take a look back to when Steele took the trophy.

HEL: AMEAS

What's that we see on the Monday back from the tournament? A bump in price that lasts all week, from 26.16 to 26.61. It's clearly not a stable situation in terms of trading for this company; but if you put your orders in on sunday morning and sold by weeks end; you would have been up.

This is of course, simplifying things. There are many factors that play into stock movement, but we are going to chalk up this tournament win as a burst of momentum and we are going to be observing if the trend continues for PGA winners.

Another sponsor that I couldn't find financials for was another sponsor for Steele called Cresa.

Cresa is an international commercial real estate firm headquartered in Boston, Massachusetts. Cresa represents tenants and provides real estate services, including corporate services; strategic planning; transaction management; project management; facilities management; workforce and location planning; portfolio/lease administration; capital markets; supply chain management; sustainability; and sublease and distribution.

Before The Cut

Using this space we are going to analyze the outcomes of golfers, their sponsors and the market movement of PGA events.

How are we going to do that? We are going to apply the "win on sunday, buy on monday" philosophies that have been observed in my NASCAR investigations.

Starting off, lets keep it simple. Lets just track the winning player and his sponsor, and the event sponsor. Perhaps we can then start tracking equipment and other economic factors.

We are going to start off with the 2016 PGA Tour and go week by week.
